Alice

~Freedom

They lied to her. They had not let her go. She had to stay. She did not want to stay. Not with peope who lie to her, get her on drugs and hold her captured like an animal. A dangerous animal.

Maybe she was dangerous but no animal. Alice looked silently at the nurse who gave her her pills, watching her swallowing and bring her to bed. No controll. She always swallowed her pills. She was a good girl, not mad, always honest. Nearly.

She closed her eyes and mumbled some odd words, drifting away. Die nurse closed the door of her white prison.

Alice remained, waited a few minutes until she heared steps on the flow before she risekd to move. She sat up and slide from her bed to the sterile floor. Her nude feed made quiet Noices with every step. She walked on her toes to prohibitive them.

Warily she uplifted her mattress and fumbled at the downside for an unevenness. She touched something hard, not far away from the wall. When she got what she wanted she put it into her pocket and turned to the door.

The blank knob stared at her and his big mouth seemed to gibe her silently.

“Not this time” Alice muttered. “no bonbons an no carrotts, no growing or shrinking.”

She took her weapon and held it right in front of her. “This time I got the key.”

This time it was her triumphe. Though she had done things to get this weapon she would never done if not.. yeah, if it would not be for her freedom.

Alice put the key into the lock and the quiet “snap” hunted a shower over her back. One step closer to her freedom.

Clamly she looked out of the door into the endless white floor, deeper than the rabit hohle and beyond every sanity.

She closed her eyes. Her lips formed loudless words which had never been spoken.

“But I don’t want to walk among mad people.”

“Oh you could not help that.” The cat grinned. “We are all mad here. I am mad. You are mad, too.”

“How do you know I am mad?”

“You have to be or you would not have come here.”

Alice ripped her eyes open and got back to present. I am not mad! That’s why she had to got away from here. Here was everybody mad. Maybe this was the wonderland? This was not the wonderland! There was no wonderland!

Alice slipped trough the door into the floor and walked on toes, pressed at the white wall along the rabit-hole-floor. Her eyes flipped from one side to the other. Doors everywhere. Which one was the right one?

Always at the end. The right one is always at the end. The other ones would lead her to madness. The light if the neonlamps shine down on her merciless and would reveal her for everyone who would cross her. She wanted to melt with the wall. White and white.

Everything was white. Madness was white. Freedom not.

Freedom was made out of three thin black lines on a white wall and had a golden knob.

Th freedom was so near...

“Alice, what are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be in your room?”

A hard grip drilled in her arm and ripped her back. Alice turned around and looked into the false evil grin of the Cheshire Nurse Marie. Her eyes sparkled in the neon light.

“How do you got out? Sheouldn’t you be in your room, Alice?”

“No” Alice answered and got her arm free. The grin straggered and for a moment Alice was able to see who was right in front of her. She flinched back. “No!”

That was not possible. She blinked and the nurse was back in front of her. No Cheshire car. No Ceshire nurse. Just the nurse.

“Alice, come with me. I’ll bring you back to your room. I promise I will not tell the Doctor.” She grinned bride and conspiredly and Alice flinched back another step but the Cheshire nurse went closer.

“I will not stay here” Alice muttered. “They are all mad here. I am not mad. You are mad.”

“How do you know I am mad, Alice?” Another step.

“If not you would note have come here.” Alice jumped to the front and ripped the nurse to the ground, grasped at her but she got herself free. The nurse called for help, screamed, slapped and kicked her.

Alice reached in her pocket and pulled a knife out. Faster than the Cheshire-Nurse could record what happened, Alice hold it to the nurses throat and pulled down to her, close to her ear.

“I know who you are.” Nothing more than a breeze. Than she wiped out that evil grin forever.

“Never again” Alice hissed and got up. The blood came to her like a crimson stream but she ran. She did not care if she was clam any more. Her feed made loud noises on the floor. Everywhere around her voices screamed, called her, hunted her, enticed her. She was freedom. More than a few lines.

More voices behind her. She did not look back. Screams. She did not stop running, running to her freedom. She could nearly feel it, smell it, taste it.

Alice ran and felt. They ripped her down pulling her to the ground. She cried out loud. So many voices, all jumbling.

“Hold her down!” “I’ve got her arm!” “Oh godness, Mary!” “What did she-“ “Give me the injection!” “I’ll hold-“ “For that she’ll suffer in-“

Alice screamed. She rebelled, fought, teared herself free and rolled to the side on all fours and froze. Thery were four, four voices which melt to one. A scream out of four mothes.

She hissed like the Cheshire Cat growling at them. Her hand touched the knife her fingers loking around its bloddy neck.

Her eyes schooedback and forth like a animal. This animal would bring its captivity to an end here and now no matter how. Death or freedom.

No more grids, Alice swore to herself. She wanted out of her cage. A man in blue uniform cam slowly closer talking to her but she did not hear him. Everything was like turned off. She only heared her own breath.

Sh waited... waited till he was close enaugh. Only a few inches. He bowed down to her holding his hands allaying in front of him.

As if she would believe him. A few inches... Now! She jumped on him pressing her both hands on the floor and swang her legs around her body and hurtled agains the Officer. Theverve teared him of his feet and he felt back tearing the others with him.

Alice took her chance jumping on her feed and ran. Always looking at the black lines on the wall.

She did not need a key any more she knew it would be open. She cared.

Maybe she was mad but she was not stupid. Alice ripped the door open and shot it behing her. She just bought a few seconds nothing more. They would follow her soon.

It seemed like she flew up the stairs just gliding without touching the ground. She heared the door cracking unter her and froze.

“Where is she?” “She can not be far, down!” “-nothing upstairs. They are buildung a new-“ “How could she-“

The voices unplugged farther away diving deeper into the rabit hole of the building, deeper into the madness.

Alice oppressed her joy. It was not over yet. She had to be fast, actinf fast, escaping fast.

With a rustle her clothes felt to the floor. She looked down on her bloody hands. It was not her blood this time. She wipped her hands at her T-Shirt always looking nothing stayed behind and stood up.

Quickly she opened the window next to her and gripped a bag which hang there like he had told her.

Her clothes rusteled softly.

No noise came over her lips, no loud came from her careful stepps when she went back down and stepped trough the door back into the white floor. She went past a lake of red blood while walking down the corridor.

In front of the dead Cheshire Nurse stood another nurse and seemed to panic any moment. Alice ran to her and she looked up in horror. Her glance told her anything.

“What happened?”

“Oh godness a female patient went amok and hurt Nurse Mary badly! I think-“

“Where is she?”

“Running to the stairs. The security and Dr. Connor-“

“Keep clalm, Sister...”

“Louise.”

“Louise. You are a freshmen?”

“Yes, Doctor. Today is my first day and-“

“It’s okay, Louise. Stay here I’ll get and call for help.” Alice looked down at herself hecticly. “Damn, I lost my card. Could I borrow yours...?”

The nurse nodded fast and gace Alice her card. She thanked and with a last nod she began to sprint, not to fast and not to slow. She dragged the security card trough the magnetic strip of the security door and pusehd it open while it beeped. She crossed the long floor till she reached the lifts and stairs.

Down the stairs she met another security guy and a doctor.

“What the hell-“

Apparently out of breath Alice stopped. Tears popped into her eyes. “ A Patient in the psychiatry went amok! A nurse is hurt and needs help. The telephon... we need... my first day today...”

The tears ran down her cheeks. The doctor nodded and pushed her to the side followed by the watchman.

The door fell shot and Alice set up. When she walked in the hall she knew the news about the pyschotic patient had beedarrived. People jumbled around and a ambulance stood in thedriveway. Screams everywhere.

“She still-“ “Gone!” “-a knife!” “-dangerous-“ “-need moreplacebos!” “All patients upstairs are playing mad!” “-hurt themself!”

A few feet in front of here was a big black hole. The exit of the burrow.

Aound here everything drowned in chaos. Dr. Alice slipped invisibly through the crowd and trough the hole into the blue and red lightened freedom.
