But how can you accomplish this?\r\n\r\nIf you\u2019ve worked in the ecommerce space, you\u2019re familiar with the challenges\u00a0associated with\u00a0cart abandonment. The same applies for the travel industry and booking a trip. While\u00a0shoppers leave without paying\u00a0for many reasons, proper localization can help prevent avoidable abandonment, especially in the case of international customers. Here are three common\u00a0reasons internationals consumers abandon their carts, and\u00a0steps you can take\u00a0to prevent it.\r\n<h3>1. Prices aren&#8217;t listed\u00a0in local currencies<\/h3>\r\nHave you ever bought something without knowing the price? Maybe you have, but that probably doesn\u2019t happen too often. However, that\u2019s what you are asking customers to do when you don\u2019t present prices in their currency.\r\n\r\n13% of international online shoppers say they will abandon their cart if the price is listed in a foreign currency. If you aren\u2019t displaying the appropriate currency to your customers, you&#8217;re causing unnecessary friction in the checkout process and may be potentially\u00a0losing sales. Not only does this\u00a0create hesitation in the consumer, it can\u00a0also be a distraction which leads to missed sales opportunities.\r\n<h3>2. Local payment methods aren&#8217;t serviced<\/h3>\r\nJust as each country\u00a0has it&#8217;s own distinct languages and customs, most also have equally unique\u00a0payment methods. Accepting a variety of credit card brands simply\u00a0isn\u2019t enough, especially when you&#8217;re dealing\u00a0with multiple markets. In fact, only 1% of online shoppers in China pay using\u00a0international credit cards. And in Germany, only about\u00a025% of shoppers use credit cards when making online purchases. Sufficient global coverage requires an understanding of alternative local payment methods.\r\n\r\nThe right mix of payment methods can\u00a0boost online sales by up to 40%, as it removes barriers to purchase. What\u2019s the result? <em>More revenue.<\/em>\r\n<h3>3. Issues with international shipping<\/h3>\r\nAs more and more merchants begin selling overseas, the need for seamless global trade intensifies. Of course, offering international shipping is no easy task\u2014it\u2019s a complex service with a ton of moving parts. There\u2019s unique\u00a0regulations, security concerns, capacity and legal considerations depending on where you\u2019re planning to go.\r\n\r\nYou\u2019re going to need to understand customer expectations in all of your target markets. Being able to communicate shipping information, costs\u00a0and an estimated arrival date is essential. This requires an\u00a0understanding of duty fees and taxes associated with your market so customers aren\u2019t rudely surprised by high shipping costs.\r\n\r\nYour target markets will dictate more than language choices for your online storefront.
