Issue with file naming in uploads

[edit]

You have carried out several uploads using a very poor file-naming convention. As a result, the file descriptions are often incorrect or illogical. Please refrain from doing this in the future, as it is not feasible for us to manually rename all files. Thanks, Carolus (talk) 10:30, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can you give some examples? Mr.Nostalgic (talk) 10:38, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here, example. - Carolus (talk) 10:53, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you follow the link, you can see the logic behind it. Since i upload these files with an automated program i cannot see upfront how many characters are needed to describe what is depicted. Hence i take as many characters as i can to make the discription as clear as possible.
And remember, you do not have to rename these files. This work is on a voluntary base.

The use of multiple languages in the naming is not desired. If you want to add extra date, other fields are available for this purpose. This approach creates unnecessary noise, does not add value results in automated processes working less effectively and disrupts the project; i hope you understand. failed scans

[edit]

Hi, the following files contain failed scans:

The error lies with the original provider of the scans, i.e. the museum. --Túrelio (talk) 11:28, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for notifying me. I made deletion requests for them. Regards, Alf Mr.Nostalgic (talk) 12:11, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

For example, http://proxy.handle.net/10648/ac98bc3c-d0b4-102d-bcf8-003048976d84, used here no longer redirects to the file, now going to https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/zoeken?activeTab=nts Can the many "perma"links be repaired? JayCubby (talk) 00:51, 23 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Also, spaarnestadphoto moved to the Nationaal Archief, so links there will need to be fixed as well. JayCubby (talk) 00:07, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Be my guest.

I wasn't sure if you knew of a means to automate it. Never mind then... JayCubby (talk) 16:49, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I understand. If there was an option then i would try it. However, even permalinks are not what they stand for. Regards, Alf Mr.Nostalgic (talk) 17:39, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been nominated for deletion at

This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated contents should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Interieur van jhr. Willem van Andringa in Groningen, 1910, archiefnr 329-02.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hi Mr.Nostalgic, the date-entry for this image should be corrected as it's obviously wrong. --Túrelio (talk) 10:37, 17 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

inconsistent naming of depicted person

[edit]

Hi Mr.Nostalgic, in the description of these 2 images File:Portret fan Hoatse de Jong, 1981 ca. signatuur Jong, Hotze de F-0021.jpg and File:Portret fan Hoatse de Jong, 1981 ca. signatuur Jong, Hotze de F-0022.jpg the name of the depicted is written in 2 different ways, Hoatse de Long and Hotze the Jong. Which one is correct? --Túrelio (talk) 10:23, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hoi Túrelio,
Ik denk dat de ene in Fries is en de andere in Nederlands.
